Basically we are the people with the power, money and knowledge. As a club you should get to know your Executive Committee. The people on the committee have usually been very active in their own clubs, be it in training or administration. We also make decisions that can directly affect your club. If you want your voice to be heard we are the people that will listen and do something about it.
We can guide clubs when they are organising events such as balls, an intervarsity, nights out, training nights, seminars, performances and hopefully anything else you throw our way. We will not however mollycoddle you nor do the work for you. It will be a clubs job to put in the work and get results.
We can guide clubs on filling out finance forms. We determine all the finances and pass them at our meetings. There are many different types of finance forms and they are all available in the PE Office. There are also financial policies and standard rates that we use to calculate the amount of money given to a club. The club treasurer should be very familiar with all these in order to fill out a form as best they can.
We are also in charge of discipline. Things like trashing your hotel on an away IV, drinking while competing, being abusive to Mardyke staff are not on. There are also certain contracts that the Clubs Executive has with Bank of Ireland and Kukri that must not be breached. This will result in a hefty fine.
That’s great…But what do we actually do…
Here are some of the nuts and bolts. Well, we sit on committees, make policies that govern Clubs and organise events for Clubs. The Clubs President also expresses the views of clubs on college committees
Events
This is a brief list of events that the Clubs Executive is involved in organising
• Orientation Week
• Freshers Week – Clubs Day
• Reorientation Day
• General Meeting
• First Aid Courses
• Clubs Xmas Patry
• RAG Week
• Clubs AGM
• Clubs + Socs Ball
Funding
Each week the Weekly Allocation must be decided by the Finance Committee. There is a set of standard rates for the year that must be followed. The finance committee must go through the finance forms and club accounts to determine how much to support a club. These are very important meetings as over €400,000 is given out every year.
Policies
The Clubs Executive must determine policies that govern the clubs. This is a large role for the Clubs Executive. Policies must be in place for safe and responsible use of Clubs Executive equipment (Video Camera, Jeep, Camera, etc).
