Hey everyone,

My name is Eoghan and I’m your Commercial & Communications Officer for the upcoming year.

First of all I’d like to welcome all the students back who are returning for another term at UCC. Whether it was Ocean City, Santa Ponsa or some God-forsaken island off the West coast, I’m sure you are all equally broke. I will be working hard this year to save you money in as many areas as possible and arrange a number of student deals around the city.

For all incoming first years, Welcome!! You have just begun the greatest years of your life! You will meet some fantastic people, achieve things you didn’t think possible, wake up in strange places (and possible next to strange people!), at times have no idea what’s going on with your life and most importantly have some outstanding nights out. Welcome to college and let the games begin!

This is the first year that UCCSU has had a commercial and communications officer, in previous years the deputy president covered these roles. To make it easier to understand my role I have split it into a number of parts.

Commercial Manager

As commercial manager of UCCSU I am in charge of all union commercial activity and its revenue stream. I liaise with both local and national companies to obtain sponsorship and advertising for the union and I also arrange on campus promotions. I also manage any SU ventures with a potential to make money for the SU. As commercial manager I will also be working hard to obtain the best student deals and discounts around the city.

Media Manager

Although UCC’s media outlets remain editorially independent from the SU, we are still very involved at an administrative level. I am the general manager for the UCC Express newspaper and also for the Motley magazine and I chair the media executive. I administer the budget and also deal with disputes and legal issues when they occur. My primary role as media manager is to deal with advertising, printing and payment for the Express and Motley. I also sit on the board of directors of the student centre.

Communications Officer

As communications officer I am tasked with keeping you informed of all that the union is doing on your behalf and what’s going on. I run the SU website, facebook, twitter and forum boards. You can follow the union through our website, weekly email, facebook or twitter. We will also be conveying information via posters, class announcements, the UCC media and the UCC forum boards. A big (and very annoying!) issue in the past has been the amount of emails UCC sends its students and I will work hard to address this problem. I also sit on a number of committees to communicate students’ views and needs to the university.

Communications is a two-way street; the union can only represent you if we know what issues matter the most. Don’t hesitate to email any of us or leave a comment on our facebook.

Personal Info:

I am 21 years old and I come from Fermoy, Co. Cork. I went to school in St. Colman’s College and after 6 years I left with the same amount of hurling talent I had when I began – none. I completed a degree in Applied Psychology and I have no idea what the future holds. During my 3 years in UCC I have worked as a club and pub promoter for Fast Eddies, The Bailey and Club Classic and I am very passionate about socialising. I love music, travelling but nothing beats a crazy night out!
