Audrey Walsh - Students' Union Equality Officer

My name is Audrey Walsh and I am your Equality Officer for the year. I am 20 years of age and a final year politics and English student.During my time in UCC I have played a number of roles with in the Students’Union, not least of which, being the first ever Gender Equality officer lastyear. It was through working with last year’s Equality team that I became evenmore passionate about equality issues and decided that there was much more thatI wanted to do.

There are five portfolios represented under the Equalityumbrella; Disability Rights, Gender Equality, International Students, LGBTRights and Mature Students with each portfolio having its own dedicated officertoo. My job as Equality Officer involves chairing and co-ordinating theEquality working group, which is where the five other officers and I decidewhat campaigns and projects to pursue. I also sit on the Students Union Executivewhere I raise any issues arising from any of the equality sections and ensurethat equality issues are taken into account when decisions are made.

Being the second year that these roles have existed thereare still some kinks to iron out but we are very enthusiastic. Throughout thecoming year we will be running several campaigns on equality related issues and will be looking for your help.
